How is this medicine supposed to be used?

Methylprednisolone injection is available as a powder to be dissolved in liquid for injection into a muscle or vein. It is also available as a suspension in an injection solution to be injected into a muscle, into a joint, or into a lesion. Your dosing schedule will vary depending on your specific condition and on your response to treatment.

You will be given methylprednisolone injection at a hospital or medical office, or you will be prescribed the medicine to administer yourself at home. If you will be giving yourself methylprednisolone injection at home, your doctor will demonstrate how to do it. Make sure you are clear on these instructions, and ask your doctor if you have any questions. Ask your doctor what to do if you experience any trouble giving methylprednisolone injection.

Your physician can adjust your dose of methylprednisolone injection while you are being treated to ensure that you are always taking the lowest dose that is effective for you. Your physician will also need to adjust your dose if you have unusual stress on your body like surgery, illness, or infection. Inform your physician if your symptoms get better or worse or if you become ill or have any changes in your health while you are being treated.

What special safety precautions should I take?

  • notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to methylprednisolone, any other drugs, benzyl alcohol, or any ingredient in methylprednisolone injection. Ask your pharmacist for the list of ingredients.
